Cancun

After the fun and anticipation of the holidays we are stuck with January.  January is cold.  January is ugly.  While January is no man's friend, there are opportunities for happiness during this drab time in our lives.  To overcome January you need to stop saving money, dieting and head to a tropical location.  See, in the tropics, they don't know that January sucks, this common knowledge is totally lost there.  Being responsible for our own happiness, we did the mature thing and escaped January if only for a few days, to Mexico.

All trips begin with chocolate.  This is how God meant vacations to start.  It's in the apocrypha some where.
Liquid form also works.

Arrival and my happiness started to germinate.
We stayed at the GR Caribe, it was a cute little moroccan-inspired hotel.

Straight to the beach.

Somehow, I ended up with a really small bathrobe.  As usual, I owned it.
Room service was on tap at all hours of the day.

Being double fisted with pina coladas and strawberry daiquiri's goes a long way in overcoming any lingering thoughts of January.  Of course, if these drinks had actually contained alcohol this effect would have been amplified.

Good food all over the place.  Below, fresh crepes, cajeta, coconut and whipped cream.

Hairy armpits and I know it.

Whenever Candice is wearing a bikini, we must do the requisite jump shot.  I rather liked this one.

In general, I don't like wearing clothes.  I wore very little of them on this trip, so all was well with the universe.

Through a mix-up, I had to book another hotel last minute.  ME Cancun served us well for a few nights.

The weather was overcast for a few days.  Bummer.  We still played in the ocean and went shopping.

Candice lucha libreing it up.  She still looks beautiful.

I like this pic because she looks like she's leading her pueblo to more fertile lands.  Anda!

We were dared by some friendly mexicans to eat the eyes out of this newly caught fish.  No one thought we would do it.  I guess they didn't know us very well.
With a smile on her face, she dug the fish eye out of it's socket and ate that SOB.  It tasted fatty and kinda good.

We did some diving.  I have always wanted to dive with the trinity of dangerous sharks.  Great whites-check.  Tiger sharks-check and check.  Bull sharks-finally able to check this one.

The dive masters would spear fish and gut them right in the water.  The sharks were interested but never got more closer than 8 ft. to us.  As usual they are very misunderstood creatures.

NOTE:  Bull sharks have more testosterone than any other animal on the planet.  We got along great.

It was interesting to me that the dive was only a few hundred feet from the shore.  A shore containing unsuspecting tourists, I imagine.  Bull sharks mostly hunt in shallow water so I guess this isn't too big of a surprise.

Here' a shot of our initial decent.  I could see the sharks swimming around the bottom.  Very exciting.

The sharks were found at around a 100 ft deep so the light was darker and the pics didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.

Here are the fish that were caught.

They were cooked and on our plate not 30 minutes after catching them.  So good.

We also did a few dives at the world famous underwater museum.  A french artist named Jason deCaires Taylor created 400 sculptures and placed them about 30 ft. down off the coast of Isla Mujeres.  It's really beautiful and a little creepy.

I think we both feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle the rest of January and 2013.  It's been a great start so far.
